StrataXRT is used to relieve low grade inflammatory changes such as dry, itching, flaking, peeling and irritated skin.

For more severe inflammatory changes, StrataXRT reduces pain, redness and heat, and helps soothe the exposed skin areas.

StrataXRT was developed for use on

  • Radiation dermatitis
  • Toxic and compromised skin
  • Superficial wounds
  • First and second degree burns
  • Irritated, dry and itchy skin as well as on red and inflamed skin.

Radiation dermatitis is an acute skin reaction affecting a large majority of patients undergoing radiation therapy. These reactions can go from redness on the skin (erythema) to moist desquamation, and may be a source of significant pain, discomfort and even psychological stress. Should you want to learn more, please visit the radiation dermatitis sectionof the website.

What are StrataXRT properties?

Once dried, StrataXRT forms a thin, flexible, protective layer that is gas permeable and waterproof. This helps promote a moist wound healing environment by minimizing Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL). The StrataXRT film lightly bonds to the most superficial damaged skin layer and protects compromised skin areas as well as superficial wounds.

StrataXRT gel has the following properties:

  • It is bacteriostatic and inert
  • Easy application at home, no need for secondary dressing
  • Suitable for large radiation affected areas, but also in joints and hairy areas without the need for shaving
  • Does not need to be removed during radiotherapy since it does not a bolus effect
  • Make-up and sun protection can be applied over it
  • Transparent and odorless

Since StrataXRT does not contain alcohol, fragrances or parabens, it is also suitable for children and people with sensitive skin.

How does StrataXRT work?

StrataXRT is an innovative flexible wound dressing specifically developed for the prevention and treatment of radiation dermatitis.

Once dried, StrataXRT forms a thin, flexible, protective layer that is gas permeable and waterproof. This will help promote a moist would healing environment by minimizing Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL). The StrataXRT film lightly bonds to the most superficial damaged skin layer and protects compromised skin areas as well as superficial wounds.

This moist environment will allow a rapid post therapy healing and a faster skin recovery. It will also reduce the acute skin inflammatory response. It can also relieve dry, itching, flaking, peeling and irritated skin, which are common side effects of radiation therapy.

StrataXRT can be used immediately after the first radiation therapy session. It will minimize the progression of skin reactions during radiation treatment and maintain skin integrity.

StrataXRT can remain in contact with the skin during the radiation sessions since it does not influence the course of the radiation therapy (It does not deflect the beams, so it does not cause a “bolus effect”).

When reaching radiation dermatitis grades of dry desquamation, StrataXRT protects the fragile epidermis and maintains the skin’s integrity, preventing the outmost layers from excessive sloughing.

For a worse radiation dermatitis grade such as moist desquamation, StrataXRT protects the dermal stroma from long-term deterioration whilst optimizing the environment for the reparative process and reducing the risk of infection.

Applying StrataXRT

StrataXRT is recommended to be used starting from the first dose of radiation therapy in order to enhance results.

First ensure that the affected skin or superficial wound upon which you will apply StrataXRT is clean and dry. Should there be excessive exudate (fluid), pat it dry.

Apply a very thin layer of StrataXRT directly on the affected area and allow it to dry. The gel should dry within 5 to 6 minutes. If it takes longer to dry, you have probably applied too much. Gently remove the excess with a clean tissue or gauze and allow the drying process to continue. Once dry, StrataXRT may be covered with cosmetics and clothing.

StrataXRT should be applied once or twice daily upon the affected areas or as advised by your physician. To achieve best results, StrataXRT should remain in continuous contact with the skin (24 hours a day/7 days a week). StrataXRT should be applied for a minimum of 60–90 days post radiation therapy, or until no further improvement is seen.

For chronic radiation dermatitis, continued use is recommended until no further improvement is seen.
